Ward started out the day going through his Thai cookbooks, and armed with his grocery list, we set out to get the extra things he’d need. But we got distracted and somehow ended up at Richter’s, where we spent megabucks on herbs.
Our experience with our garden is this: if we buy something and don’t plant it right away, we somehow never do get around to it, and one day we’re faced with a wilted plant looking at us sadly and accusingly.
And when you’ve spent megabucks on flats and flats of herbs, you don’t really want that to happen. At least, we didn’t!
So here we are, tired but feeling very accomplished. We have several containers filled with basil, we’ve seeded one container with cilantro, and the Alpine strawberries, French tarragon, sage, English thyme, lavender, lemon grass, container tomatoes, various mints, parsley, chives, society garlic and rosemary are all tucked in and about the soil all around our house.
And we’re ordering take-out. Ward is too tired to cook, and I don’t blame him!
So it’s Thai beef salad and basil fried rice with shrimp for me, murtabek for Sean, and beef udon and tuna handroll for Ward.
We definitely won’t be going to bed hungry. It won’t be as good as homemade, but close enough, on a gorgeous gardening day like today.

Richter’s - oh man, I love that place but I find them kinda pricey and it’s a trip to get out there. They do have the ultimate in herb choices though and if you’re actually going to plant the stuff, it’s worth the trip.
